It’s coming to that time of the year again – Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival is being held on Sunday 30th June 2013! The procession is starting at Futures Park at 11am and due to arrive in Stubbylee Park around 12.30pm.
A selection of my images from last year have been used on the publicity materials for this year – the colour images at the bottom of the poster above are mine and I am looking forward to photographing the event again this year. Hope to see you there!
Uniformed man sat on a bench at Ramsdown (Ramsbottom) Steam Railway Station, part of the East Lancashire Railway's 1940's Weekend in May 2013
I made it again this year to Ramsbottom for the 1940′s Weekend in May. For the Saturday and Sunday there had been glorious sunshine and due to work commitments I had to wait until the Monday (27th May 2013) to make my way to Ramsbottom, or Ramsdown as it is know for their 1940′s Weekend and the weather had turned rather cold and grey. Sadly this meant not many people were about, and definitley not as many people as 2012 on the same day. My images from last year can be seen here on my website.
Above was the only image I got from this brief half hour we spent at Ramsbottom, but an image from last year ‘A 1940′s Embrace’ I entered into a Facebook competition to photograph the Rossendale Business Awards which I won – so all wasn’t lost! So hoping this year’s image will serve me well.
On second thoughts, a fellow photographer friend Gill Moore has set up ‘The World Bench Project‘ following on from a personal project of her own documenting benches in Chorlton, Manchester. Gill is inviting people to submit their own images on benches around the world. I have already submitted this one in Northumberland along with this one in Fleetwood, Lancashire so this latest one will contribute nicely to this ongoing web based project! If you come across any interesting benches on your travels, why not help Gill with this project too.
Woven Reindeer made by Rossendale artist, Chris Worswick part of Impluse - Animals in Motion exhibition at Valley Artists Studio on Burnley Road East in Waterfoot, Rossendale, Lancashire
Today I’ve been to photograph the opening of Impulse – Animals in Motion which is a art and literature event curated by artists Chris Worswick and Gill Fox. The Mayor of Rossendale, Councillor Amanda Robertson opened the exhibition this morning (25th May 2013) at the Valley Artists Studios in Waterfoot, Lancashire.
In this exhibition are six animal artists along with work from Valley Artist. The image above is my favorite piece of art in the room, a woven reindeer with a metal structure by Chris. It is a mixed media exhibition drawings, paintings and craft work such as above.
Along with the exhibition they are running a poetry competition open to School aged children (5- 16years) which is where the literature part of the event comes in!
Opening times for the event are Saturday 25th May 11-4pm, Sunday 26th 11-4pm, Wednesday 29th May 11-6pm, Saturday 1st June 11-5pm and Sunday 2nd June 11-5pm.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this exhibition and look forward to see what fellow artists of Rossendale get up to! Who knows, I may be exhibiting with them soon!
On Wednesday 27th March 2013 the Annual NUS Services Awards was held at the Palace Hotel in Manchester.
Chelsea Spokes presenting at the NUS Services Awards 2013 at the Palace Hotel in Manchester on Wednesday 27th March 2013
I had been asked to photograph this event last year as they were after good quality images of the awards in front of their event boards. In order to achieve this, it meant taking lighting. I have a 3 head studio lighting kit which is mains powered, but when I am on my own its a bit of task to set up and down with this, not to mention the weight to carry/wheel it about! So for this I used speed lights and this kit is a lot more mobile and doesn’t take up much space! They were very happy with my images and I was asked back to photography the Awards Ceremony again. (See image below)

I really enjoy events such as this where they are rewarding and giving back to those organizations / groups / people who have gone the extra mile. There is always such a good vibe. I wasn’t feeling 100% well for this job yet the high spirits of the night carried me through!
