On Friday 29th November at Bacup and Rossendale Borough Football Club a fundraising Sportsman’s Night with a difference was held in the Martin Peters Sports Bar.

Sky Sports Peter Smith interviewed Mark Halsey about his career in football from playing non-League football through to his time referring in the Premier League and his current role with BT Sport providing analysis on referring decisions.

Mark also spoke about his battle with throat cancer and how this impacted on his referring career followed by a question and answers session from the packed audience.

This was my first time photographing in this venue and this is the sort of challenge I really enjoy as I have to think quickly to get the right images.  To ensure I got the  best results from the event I took portable studio lighting which is one additional bag to my normal camera gear bag and results such as the first image in this blog post can be easily achieved.  When jobs offer a challenge professional photographers have the equipment to overcome them.
