FROM exhibiting in New York to being a professional photographer based in Rossendale, members of Accrington’s Business League Network got to know a little more about me. It’s true I do spend hours sometimes in a warehouse with nothing more to talk to than the inanimate object I am photographing for a catalogue or the internet, so it was unusual for me not only to be in front of the lens on a working day but to have someone to talk to! Founder of the League Berni asked me five questions to delve into my life and I will admit to being nervous. For me being the Ninja photographer in the background is where I am happiest. That said, it was nice to be able to explain to people a little more about who I am, my experience, my interests and passions.
And… if you are looking for a photographer just give me a call.
When a top of the range independent car retailer wanted to improve their web presence, social media and online marketing they asked me – and my camera – to do the job.
The garage is based in Ashley, Cheshire, and I was tasked to capture images to make sure when it comes to buyers searching to purchase a luxury car, it would be top of the Google list.
These images capture both the smart exterior and pristine interior of building.
Noting such as their affiliation with Retail Motor Industry Federation, keeping it in the background of the image.
Always with a keen eye for detail, I wanted to capture the welcoming feel and ambiance that the garage offers its clients. Through these images you are invited to take a chair and discuss your motoring needs in a relaxed atmosphere with no high pressure salesman pushing you to sign on the dotted line.
Meet Mike, he is the store manage at the Sainsbury’s store in Burnley.
I was approached by The Grocer magazine to photograph Mike as the store had won ‘Store Of The Week’ through their mystery shopper activities.
My brief was to capture a landscape image of Mike looking happy from the store win with store signage in the background.
In typical Lancashire weather, it was raining heavily for this shoot so we used the signage which was undercover at the trolley bay next to the store entrance.
Here is the full page from The Grocer magazine to show how the image was used to illustrate this article.

Meet Dan Woods. He’s an accountant at Cassons in Haslingden, Lancashire. Along with his passion for figures, his other love is cars. To showcase this he has a car review site: http://www.simply-motor.com
This is a great example of the stories Cassons share about their team members to actively promote their employees’ interests.
The article can be seen here on the Cassons website: http://www.cassons.co.uk/news-and-events/cassons-news/accountant-hits-fast-lane
Along with coverage in the Lancashire Telegraph
And the story was also used in the Summer 2014 issue of Business Life from the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce
The photograph was key to illustrate the story and that is where my services come into play. If you have business story you wish to share and are in need of a creative image to illustrate it, please get in touch!
It’s that time of the year again – Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival is being held on Sunday 29th June 2013! The procession is starting at The Hub, Burnley Road, Bacup through the town center and along Market Street to Moorlands Park
A selection of my images from last year have been used on the publicity materials for this year. The Coconutters on the fun fair ride is by fellow photographer Christine Belshaw. I am looking forward to photographing the event again this year. Hope to see you there!
Meet Simon, he is the business owner of Jacob’s Ladder Property Consultancy based in Ramsbottom. I met Simon when I was invited to attend a business networking group in Bury where he approached me about this photography shoot.
Through a short discussion I found out Simon was after some pictures to promote his fundraising efforts for Bury Hospice. He was taking part in the ‘My Hairy Challenge’.
These images will be used on a variety of social media platforms to promote his fundraising and also to tie into his business. Simon had a location in mind – Jacob’s Ladder in Nuttall Park, Ramsbottom, due to its connections with the name of his business.

The interesting architecture of local properties was also used to provide a variety of backgrounds for additional marketing images, which Simon is making good use of.
Now, to the hand in pockets time. He has decided he is not cutting his hair or beard until he reaches his £1,000 target. As he does not want to end up looking like Catweazle, please sponsor him if you are able. His JustGiving page can be found at: www.justgiving.com/SimonHolland7
Recently I photographed Dansworks Dance Academy’s Annual Show at Burnley Mechanics Theatre. All the dancers were amazing and a credit to Principal Karen and the other teachers at the Academy in Bacup.
I photographed the dress rehearsal the day before along with the main performance and there were a few reasons for photographing both events.
Firstly, it gave me the chance to watch the dance routines in rehearsal stage so I knew where on the stage the dancers would be performing each routine. This meant I was then able to prepare for any special moments within the routines.
My preparation also meant I understood the stage lighting being used for the event and I could pick the best photography location within auditorium.
Dansworks have partnered with Dance College Studios – a dance school from Malta and dancers from both schools were at the show and performed together which made it into the press. Freelance writer Catherine Smyth Media was employed to write a press release for Dansworks and my image of the two dance schools on stage together at the annual show was used to illustrate the story. The article and photograph was used in the Rossendale Free Press and also made it into the The Local Journal.
All the images from the two days can be seen here: http://www.lizhenson.co.uk/dansworksshow2014
My name is Liz Henson, well Liz Hall now I’m married and I’m a photographer based in Rossendale, Lancashire. I love getting creative with my camera gear. Whether it be getting the right images for companies to help them be seen and give the business or service the right images for them or capturing those special moments at a one off event. That’s what I enjoy doing.
You may be wondering why there is a picture of myself at the top of this blog post. Well, I realised I didn’t have a great profile picture that allowed you to put a face to my name. Below are two images, which I have been previously using which I like as they show me in ‘action’, but my face cannot be clearly seen. I felt updating the image and was very important, as it will allow people to recognise me for my digital presence on Twitter and LinkedIn and if we were to meet in person.
Your next thought may be how does a photographer get a profile picture of themselves? As my Mum asked me, “Is it a selfie?” Actually it is! I set up my background and lighting in my conservatory at home. My camera was poised on the tripod which was connected to my laptop to see how the images were turning out. 120 images later I had 4 that I was pretty happy with.
So I can empathise when sitters are nervous and are wanting to get the best images possible.
If this is a service you or your business would be interested in please get in touch!

When people ask me to take a photograph it is usually clear the angle they wish me to take, but this job provided an interesting one. I had to become a voyeur…
I was asked to take the pictures ‘behind the scenes’ and capture the fun of the Christmas 2013 Video shoot for Cassons as if I was a fly on the wall!
The board room became the make-up room for the ladies for the Cassons Christmas Video Shoot 2013 by Shooters Media
Photography such as this, provides many challenges especially when you are with working with and alongside a video crew (they are great guys at Shooters Media I may add) and the spontaneity that presents itself on a parody project such as this.
I feel this is where my reportage style of photography comes into play. It is where I thrive by documenting what’s going on around whilst finding the unusual angles to tell the story in an interesting way.
Green screen technology was used in the production of the Cassons Christmas Video Shoot 2013 by Shooters Media
You can check out the video here on Cassons YouTube channel. They are a forward thinking company and understand the need to use social platforms to communicate with their clients while also attracting new ones.

On Friday 29th November at Bacup and Rossendale Borough Football Club a fundraising Sportsman’s Night with a difference was held in the Martin Peters Sports Bar.
Sky Sports Peter Smith interviewed Mark Halsey about his career in football from playing non-League football through to his time referring in the Premier League and his current role with BT Sport providing analysis on referring decisions.
Mark also spoke about his battle with throat cancer and how this impacted on his referring career followed by a question and answers session from the packed audience.
This was my first time photographing in this venue and this is the sort of challenge I really enjoy as I have to think quickly to get the right images. To ensure I got the best results from the event I took portable studio lighting which is one additional bag to my normal camera gear bag and results such as the first image in this blog post can be easily achieved. When jobs offer a challenge professional photographers have the equipment to overcome them. I was delighted with the outcome and hope you are too. The full image set can be seen here.
Burnley’s Christmas Lights for 2013 have been switched on this evening by X-Factor singer / songwriter, Matt Cardle. He performed 3 songs live before turning on the town centre’s Christmas Lights on Charter Walk.
Having covered other, more high profile Christmas Lights Switch On’s it was nice to cover a local on over in Burnley.
Music photography is something which I really enjoy. All I need is good music, my camera and my trusty ear plus (as I’m usually stood right next to the speakers!). I’m looking forward to covering more gigs next year.

Denise Van Outen hosted the Nivea Dare To Dip day in Spinningfields, Manchester on Saturday 17th August 2013
Nivea came to Spinningfields in Manchester yesterday with their Dare To Dip campaign. Hostess, Denise Van Outen opened the day by taking a dip and then adding her name to the wall of those who had dared to dip. Members of the public were invited to join in and here are a selection of those who chose to take a break from their hectic day and enjoy the fun! As you can see from the smiles, it was all good fun!
Key 103 listeners who came down especially to the Nivea Dare To Dip event in Spinningfield, Manchester
Images were captured throughout the day on smart phones and uploaded to social media channels with the #daretodip hashtag at the Nivea Dare To Dip event in Spinningfield, Manchester
My role here as the photographer for the day, was to capture the ongoing fun and frolics of the day whilst always keeping the brand awareness at the forefront of the images. The images were provided throughout the day which were being used on social media platforms to advertise and promote the day. I really enjoyed my day with the Nivea team and the soundtrack for the day was provided by Key 103 DJ Alex James.
It’s coming to that time of the year again – Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival is being held on Sunday 30th June 2013! The procession is starting at Futures Park at 11am and due to arrive in Stubbylee Park around 12.30pm.
A selection of my images from last year have been used on the publicity materials for this year – the colour images at the bottom of the poster above are mine and I am looking forward to photographing the event again this year. Hope to see you there!
Uniformed man sat on a bench at Ramsdown (Ramsbottom) Steam Railway Station, part of the East Lancashire Railway's 1940's Weekend in May 2013
I made it again this year to Ramsbottom for the 1940′s Weekend in May. For the Saturday and Sunday there had been glorious sunshine and due to work commitments I had to wait until the Monday (27th May 2013) to make my way to Ramsbottom, or Ramsdown as it is know for their 1940′s Weekend and the weather had turned rather cold and grey. Sadly this meant not many people were about, and definitley not as many people as 2012 on the same day. My images from last year can be seen here on my website.
Above was the only image I got from this brief half hour we spent at Ramsbottom, but an image from last year ‘A 1940′s Embrace’ I entered into a Facebook competition to photograph the Rossendale Business Awards which I won – so all wasn’t lost! So hoping this year’s image will serve me well.
On second thoughts, a fellow photographer friend Gill Moore has set up ‘The World Bench Project‘ following on from a personal project of her own documenting benches in Chorlton, Manchester. Gill is inviting people to submit their own images on benches around the world. I have already submitted this one in Northumberland along with this one in Fleetwood, Lancashire so this latest one will contribute nicely to this ongoing web based project! If you come across any interesting benches on your travels, why not help Gill with this project too.
